District of Columbia Notices and Posters
The following posters are mandatory for District of Columbia employers so that employees have access to and information about applicable labor laws. These posters can be downloaded from the links below.
All Employers
Employers in the District of Columbia are required to display the following posters:

Paid family leave poster: covered employers must, at the time of hiring and annually thereafter, and at the time the covered employer is aware that the leave is needed, provide a notice to each covered employee explaining employees’ legal right to paid leave benefits.

Unemployment compensation poster
Wage theft prevention notice: employers must provide this written notice at the time of hiring. Updates are required whenever the notice changes. Additional languages must be distributed if official versions are available. Employers must retain signed copies of the written notice or electronic records demonstrating that the employee received and acknowledged the notice. Special requirements apply to staffing firms (click here for the Spanish version).
Posters that Depend on Employer Size
The following poster is required for employers that meet the specifications mentioned below:
Family medical leave poster: required for employers with at least 20 employees.
COVID-19 Leave Under DC Family Medical Leave Act poster: Starting November 5, 2021, an employee who has worked for 30 days for an employer with 20 or more employees may use up to 16 weeks of New COVID-19 Leave. Click here for more information and additional languages.
Private Sector Employers
The District of Columbia requires employers in the private sector to display the following poster:
Job safety and health: a notice informing employees in the private sector of the protections and obligations provided under the federal Occupational Safety and Health Act.
Workers’ compensation poster
Employers Subject to Specific Laws
Child labor law poster: Explains provisions of the DC Child Labor Law regarding the employment of minors and work permit requirements.
Employers can call the DC Public Schools office at 202-442-5885 to obtain this poster.
Equality in education: for educational institutions
Fair housing law: describes required accommodations for the rental or sale of housing or commercial spaces.
LGBTQ diversity in the workplace poster (optional): this poster lists best practices for interacting with LGBTQ colleagues and constituents in a respectful and non-discriminatory manner.
Living wage notice: for government contractors.
Public accommodations poster (optional): notice of non-discrimination regarding enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages and accommodations of any place of public accommodation.
Whistleblower protection notice: district instrumentalities (quasi-governmental entities operating in part with public funds) must display notices of employee protections and obligations in each personnel office and in other public places and must use all other appropriate means to keep employees informed of their protections under the district’s whistleblower protection law. Contractors and employers of security officers must inform all employees of their rights under the district’s whistleblower protection law.
